New Power BI OneDrive and SharePoint Viewer Admin Setting to be ON by Default

new admin setting will appear soon in the Power BI admin portal for Power BI Desktop OneDrive and SharePoint integration. The new setting is titled “Users can view Power BI files saved in OneDrive and SharePoint (Preview) – UPDATE. This setting will be ON by default starting in early October unless you take action before September 29th, 2023. The setting will have the exact same functionality as the current setting for “Users can view Power BI items saved in OneDrive and SharePoint (Preview)“.

[When this will happen:]

The new setting will appear in the Power BI admin portal in late September 2023. The new status will take effect the first week of October 2023.

If you do not want users in your tenant to view Power BI reports stored in OneDrive and SharePoint directly in their browsers, you need to turn OFF the admin setting (“Users can view Power BI files saved in OneDrive and SharePoint (Preview) – UPDATE“) in your admin portal before September 29th, 2023. During the first week of October, the current public preview setting, (“Users can view Power BI items saved in OneDrive and SharePoint (Preview)”) will be removed from the admin portal and the new admin setting (“Users can view Power BI files saved in OneDrive and SharePoint“) will go into effect.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Currently, this feature was released to public preview with an admin switch that was OFF by default. If admins wanted the capability for users in their tenants to view Power BI reports stored in OneDrive and SharePoint document libraries directly in the browser, they had to manually enable this capability in the Power BI admin portal. The new setting will enable this capability by default, unless action is taken before September 29th, 2023.
