We are pleased to announce the release of the Delete Thread API. This release will allow Tenant Admins to delete 1:1 chat threads, meeting chat threads, and group chat threads as well as restore them via PowerShell scripts.
[When this will happen:]
Rollout will begin in early September 2023 and is expected to be complete by late September 2023.
[How this will affect your organization:]
Tenant admins can authorize an app to utilize Microsoft Graph APIs to delete and restore chat threads. From this point, admins will have the ability to delete 1:1 chat threads, meeting chat threads, and group chat threads in their organization. This API will require the threadID of the chat to be deleted or restored. This API is only for deleting 1:1 chat, meeting chat and group chat threads, it does not support deleting channel chat threads.
Once threads are deleted, tenant admins will have seven days to restore threads. Threads that have been deleted for over seven days may not be able to be restored.
Federated chat – Only tenant admins for the user who initiated the chat will be able to delete the chat. For example, if a user from Tenant A creates a thread and then adds a user from Tenant B, only the admin from Tenant A will be able to delete the thread. The admin from Tenant B will not be able to delete the thread.
Supported rate: one delete request per second per tenant
[What you need to do to prepare:]
Admins do not need to take any action to enable this feature in your organization.
