Title: Admins’ user directory object changes may sometimes fail to sync between on-premises and Exchange Online

User impact: Admins’ user directory object changes may sometimes have failed to sync between on-premises and Exchange Online.

More info: As a result of the pending directory object changes, some users were unable to receive internal email messages. The problem appeared to be a failure of the Forward Sync process.

Final status: We’ve confirmed, through our examination of logs formerly exhibiting impact instances, that the issue is resolved and the problem is no longer occurring for admins.

Scope of impact: This issue may have occasionally affected any admin performing user directory object changes from on-premises and Exchange Online

Root cause: A sync issue was causing the Active Directory (AD) object ID Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) to return as empty in some instances when running the undo-softdelete cmdlet is resulting in impact.

Next steps:
– We’re investigating how the sync issue was initially introduced so we can better prevent this issue from occurring in the future.
