Immersive spaces available soon for Public Preview

We are bringing the power of Microsoft Mesh right into the flow of work – making it easier for Teams users to transform their meetings into a 3D experience. With just one click, you can now easily have fun and connect with your team in an immersive space. From your Teams meeting view menu, you will now see an immersive space option. Once you are in the space, choose from one of our 3D environments and experience Spatial Audio, which allows for multiple simultaneous conversations and effective communication without talking over each other. Play interactive games built for team-bonding and explore different ice breaker activities. Express yourself with live reactions to engage with others during discussions. Bring your team together, from any physical location, with a PC or Meta Quest VR devices.

[When will this happen:]

Public Preview: We will begin rolling out in October 2023.

[How this affects your organization:]

Requirements

This feature is available in Microsoft Teams on Windows PC and Meta Quest VR devices. Immersive spaces participants can connect with anyone in the Teams meeting, whether they are in the immersive space or not.

PC requires 4 cores and 8 GB RAM to enable the option and access immersive spaces.

License Requirement

This will be available to the following licenses: Teams Essentials, Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Microsoft 365 E3/E5, and Office 365 E1/E3/E5.

Set up

Users can transform a Teams meeting into a 3D immersive experience by navigating to the “view” button in the menu bar, then selecting “immersive space”.

Current limitations

  • We do not support the new Teams (Teams 2.1). You need to use Teams 1.0 (i.e., classic Teams) t o see the “immersive space” option. Support for new Teams (Teams 2.1) will come in a few weeks.
  • Immersive spaces can host a maximum of 16 people for now. When the space is full, other meeting participants will not be able to join in immersive view.
  • PowerPoint Live is not supported, only standard screen/window share – Anyone in the immersive space will not see the PowerPoint Live slide. The PowerPoint Live presenter will receive a notification that someone in the meeting can’t see their content.

[What you can do to prepare:]

The Mesh Immersive spaces app in Teams can be managed via the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. Learn more about how to manage apps in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center here.

This feature will be made available on Teams 1.0 (i.e., classic Teams) for Public Preview. At General Availability, this feature will be supported on the new Teams (Teams 2.1) exclusively.
