Title: Users may appear to be unable to create new templated documents in SharePoint Online document libraries

User impact: Users may appear to be unable to create new templated documents in SharePoint Online document libraries.

More info: Users may be able to navigate back to the SharePoint Online document library where they may see a new templated document.
Users who see a prompt to enable pop-ups when they’re attempting to create a new templated document in a SharePoint Online document library may be able to bypass the issue by allowing these. However, they may notice that a blank page is opened in addition to the templated document.

Current status: We’ve initiated deployment of the fix to the affected service environment. We anticipate that the fix will be fully deployed by our next scheduled update, at which time we’ll test to ensure that impact is remediated.

Scope of impact: Any user attempting to create new templated documents in SharePoint Online document libraries may be affected.

Start time: Monday, November 20, 2023, at 12:00 PM UTC

Estimated time to resolve: We anticipate that the fix will reach all affected users and remediate impact on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 8:30 PM UTC.

Root cause: A recent code change, meaning to address a separate issue related to document creation, introduced a code issue within the flow utilized when creating documents from templates, resulting in impact.
