User impact: Users may have been missing some icons and headers within the UWP Microsoft 365 (Office) app.
More info: The impact was specific to users with legacy parts, alternatively known as plug-ins, enabled.

While we were working to remediate this issue, affected users could’ve updated their app version from the Microsoft Store, un-installed and re-installed the app, or accessed the content via the web portal at https://www.microsoft365.com

Final status: After further investigation, we determined reverting the update that contains the code error most efficiently remediates the impact, and after completing this reversion, we’ve validated that the impact is resolved.

Scope of impact: The impact was specific to a subset of users using certain legacy parts in the UWP Microsoft 365 (Office) app.

Start time: Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 12:00 AM UTC

End time: Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 2:15 AM UTC

Root cause: A recent update contained a code error that prevented certain elements from loading as expected, which resulted in the impact.

Next steps:
– To help prevent similar impact in the future, we’re investigating why the update contained a code error and how we can improve our validation procedures to catch such issues before deployment.
