Title: Users’ SharePoint Online content search results may be missing or may disappear when pages load
User impact: Users’ SharePoint Online content search results may be missing or may disappear when pages load.
More info: This issue specifically impacts items which were newly created or updated recently. Additionally, affected users’ recent News items in the News web part may be missing or disappear when pages load.
Current status: We’ve received reports from affected users indicating that recent News items in the News web part are also affected by this issue. We’ve modified the More info section above to reflect this.
The fix deployment has completed and will prevent further content search results from becoming missing, but unedited items that were previously missing are still impacted. To resolve this, we’ve begun propagating the missing data. Users may experience impact remediation as the missing data is propagated. Additionally, documents which are changed after the completion of the fix deployment will self correct without the need for the missing data to be repropagated.
Scope of impact: This issue may impact the availability of some items when users perform content searches or use the News web part in SharePoint Online.
Start time: Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 5:21 PM UTC
Root cause: A search index discrepancy is causing access control properties to propagate incorrectly within SharePoint Online, resulting in impact.
