Title: Users see blurry videos on Microsoft Teams live events playing pre-recorded videos

User impact: Users see blurry videos on Microsoft Teams live events playing pre-recorded videos.

More info: The issue only occurs when joining Microsoft-hosted Microsoft Teams live events from the “Calendar Peek” view in the Microsoft Teams desktop client. Users attending such events are recommended to join through a direct link via their web browser or through their Outlook calendar instead of using the Microsoft Teams desktop calendar.

Current status: With further investigation, we’ve determined that a code fix needs to be developed to prevent the impact from reoccurring during future Microsoft-hosted live events. We’re working on the development of the fix and due to the nature of the widespread impact, we anticipate it may take several months for the development, validation, and deployment to complete.

Scope of impact: This issue may impact any user attempting to watch Microsoft-hosted Microsoft Teams live events playing pre-recorded videos.

Root cause: When a user joins the live event using the “Calendar Peek” view in the Microsoft Teams desktop client, data that ensures pre-recorded videos are tagged with values that maintain a high resolution isn’t transmitted as expected.
