Title: Some users may be unable to join town halls using the Microsoft Teams classic and new Microsoft Teams web app
User impact: Users may have been able to join town halls using the Microsoft Teams classic and new Microsoft Teams web app.
Final status: With additional internal testing and validation, we’ve confirmed that our fix successfully resolved the issue and impact is remediated. If users are still impacted, please ensure they manually update the Microsoft Teams classic and new Microsoft Teams web app to receive the updated version containing the fix.
Users can check if they’re on the latest version by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of Microsoft Teams, and then following the steps below depending on the client:
Microsoft Teams classic:
– Click on About, then select Version
– This will show a message below the search bar in Microsoft Teams stating which version you’re on. Users that have been updated since Tuesday, March 19, 2024 or later have the fix.
New Microsoft Teams on the web:
– Click on Settings, then select “About Teams” towards the bottom of the menus
– This will contain the client version in the About Teams section, which should be on versions /24021528611 or higher
Scope of impact: Some users that attempted to join a town hall using the Microsoft Teams classic or new Microsoft Teams web app were impacted.
Start time: Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 6:24 PM UTC
End time: Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 1:28 AM UTC
Root cause: A latent code error in the Microsoft Teams classic and new Microsoft Teams web app code base caused issues when joining town halls.
Next steps:
– We’re further reviewing the latent code error in the Microsoft Teams classic and new Microsoft Teams web app code base to understand how the code error was introduced, and to understand what prevented it from being detected in our update testing and validation procedures, which will allow us to prevent similar issues from reoccurring.
This is the final update for the event.
