More info: Users attempting to play impacted Stream videos will encounter the error message: “This browser or app can’t play the video. Something might be outdated or not supported. Try again using a different browser or app.”

Current status: We’re continuing to run the repair job on the impacted files despite the slowed infrastructure. Background work to restore the infrastructure is still in progress. In parallel, we have developed an alternate fix that we expect to resolve the issue in a more expedient manner, which is in the process of being validated. We anticipate having the alternate repair operation running by Friday, March 29, 2024, with full remediation estimated by Friday, April 5, 2024. In the interim, more files will become available to play as the original repair job runs.

Scope of impact: Any user may be unable to play migrated Stream videos in Microsoft Stream.

Preliminary root cause: A recent feature update, intended to enhance the reliability and stability of our service, contained a code regression that impacted Stream video files that were migrated between Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 AM UTC, and Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 9:30 AM UTC, causing them to be unable to play.
