Title: Users may hear an echo if embedded audio is enabled when using PowerPoint Live in the new Microsoft Teams

User impact: Users may hear an echo if embedded audio is enabled when using PowerPoint Live in the new Microsoft Teams.

More info: Impact only occurs if a Mac user is present and unmuted in the presentation.

To avoid this issue, use the Share button within Teams to share the presentation, and make sure to enable the “Include sound” option.

Current status: The previously mentioned fix to resolve the issue is in early stages of development and is proceeding as expected. When development is complete, we’ll validate the fix for efficacy before initiating deployment to the impacted service environment.

Scope of impact: Any user may be impacted when joining a PowerPoint Live presentation that has embedded audio enabled and has a Mac user who is both unmuted and on the new Microsoft Teams clients.

Start time: Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 12:48 AM UTC

Root cause: A compatibility issue was introduced with a previous service update to disable the loopback driver in PowerPoint Live to resolve an unrelated issue, which is causing users to hear an echo in embedded audio is enabled when a Mac user is present.
