The latest update from Microsoft brings good news for administrators using SharePoint and OneDrive DLP rules to safeguard sensitive files within their organizations. The update addresses the issue of policy tips in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Windows not always being reliable.
With this new update, Office apps on Windows will now align with SharePoint and OneDrive for Business to enhance the reliability of DLP policy tips for files stored in these platforms. Instead of independently evaluating policy rules, Office will now display the same policy tip as shown in SharePoint and OneDrive for Business, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Moreover, this update eliminates the need for Office to download and cache policy XML files containing sensitive information, enhancing security measures. Here are some key points to note about this update:
– The update applies to files in ODSP opened from the host or a sync-backed folder, accessed with a work account properly licensed for ODSP DLP.
– The update functions online without caching. If offline, no policy tip UX will be displayed. If a policy tip was shown while online and the user goes offline, the tip will remain visible.
– Existing options to override a policy tip, report a false positive, or disable policy tip UX remain unaffected by this update.
To access this update, it is currently rolling out in the Current Channel Preview. Microsoft aims to enhance user experience with ODSP DLP policy tips by ensuring consistency and accuracy. Feedback is appreciated, and more improvements are expected in the future. Stay tuned for further enhancements to your DLP policy management experience.
