Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Service side auto-labeling shifts scoping of OneDrive workload to users/groups

Updated August 9, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Service side auto-labeling will support scoping of OneDrive workload to OneDrive users and groups instead of Site URLs (previous implementation).

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 124914.

[When this will happen:]

Preview: We will begin rolling out public preview of user support in OneDrive in early June 2023 and group support by late June 2023.

Standard Release: We will begin rolling out in mid-July (previously early July) and is expected to be complete by mid-August 2023 (previously early August).

[How this will affect your organization:]

When editing existing policies with sites selected in OneDrive locations, admins will need to update their policies to switch to OneDrive users/groups by doing the following:

1. Remove all sites from the picker and hit save

2. Reconfigure OneDrive locations will show you the new picker that allows you to choose users/groups

If editing existing policy with OneDrive sites via cmdlet, you will also need to reconfigure using users/groups.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

If you have existing auto-labeling policies that leverage OneDrive site URLs that need to be updated, find the right mapping of site URLs to OneDrive users/groups to help in the reconfiguration of these policies once we shift to user/groups support.

Get started with auto-labeling in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal.
