(Updated) Visio Organizational Trial offering

Updated August 22, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Beginning in May, we are enhancing our trial offering for Visio (MC306669, December 2021) by allowing users to sign up for a trial license, or request for a paid license with their AAD account. This update gives admins oversight and control over self-service trials and license requests. It also removes the need for users to input payment information when initiating a Visio trial.

Previously, self-service trials required a user to input payment information, requiring admins to take additional steps to manage billing and licensing. With this new enhancement, users will be able to start a trial without payment information or submit a request for a license directly in-product. Once a request is submitted by a user, admins will see a notification on the Microsoft 365 admin center’s home page.

To access the license request page in the admin center, go to the Billing > Licenses page, then select the Requests tab. Multiple requests can be approved/rejected at once.

[When this will happen:]

These capabilities will be rolled out starting late July 2023 (previously mid-July) and expected to complete by mid-September 2023 (previously mid-August 2023).

[How this will affect your organization:]

Self-service trial licenses will be a part of your Microsoft organizational tenant, and you will maintain the ability to approve or deny license requests. Use of trials will be governed by the Microsoft Product Terms, like other Microsoft services, and your organization’s volume licensing agreement. You will be able to cancel trial licenses at any time.

You will also fully control whether trials are converted to paid subscriptions. If a user isn’t upgraded to a paid subscription, they will lose access to premium capabilities, only maintaining access to features included with Visio in Microsoft 365.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Global or billing admins can use the same self-service purchase controls to disable self-service trials while making use of subscription management capabilities to oversee and manage trial licenses on the Your Products page in the Billing section of Microsoft 365 admin center.

Review our updated self-service purchase and trial documentation here. We’ve added important information about the way trials work, the data that is collected, and the terms that apply.
