Title: Admins may see the incorrect user added to a group in the Exchange admin center when users have the same DisplayName
User impact: Admins may see the incorrect user added to a group in the Exchange admin center when users have the same DisplayName.
More info: Admins may also receive “failed to update member” error when attempting to add users to a group in the Exchange admin center.
Current status: We’ve identified that a recent update to the Exchange admin center was configured so that the Name property is used when adding members to a group. When this property matches another user’s DisplayName, it causes a conflict, resulting in an error or the addition of an incorrect user to the group. We’re creating a fix that will use the externalDirectoryObjectId instead of the Name property when adding members to a group to remediate impact.
Scope of impact: Any admin attempting to add users to a group in the Exchange admin center may be impacted.
Root cause: A recent update to the Exchange admin center was configured so that the Name property is used when adding members to a group.
