Title: Anonymous users may be unable to view or edit Microsoft Whiteboards in Microsoft Teams meetings
User impact: Anonymous users may be unable to view or edit Microsoft Whiteboards in Microsoft Teams meetings.
Current status: During our process of initiating the deployment of the fix, we’ve identified that additional validation is needed in order to ensure it will successfully remediate impact without adversely impacting other aspects of the service. We’ve started deploying the fix to our internal testing environment, and afterwards we’ll deploy it to a subset of users for further validation and monitoring before we initiate the deployment to the impacted environments. Due to our new deployment plan, we anticipate that users in the impacted environment will receive the fix as early as November 27, 2023. We’ll continue to provide update on the expected deployment progress as they become available.

Scope of impact: Anonymous users attempting to access Microsoft Whiteboards in Microsoft Teams meetings held via any connection method may be affected.

Start time: Monday, August 14, 2023, at 12:00 AM UTC

Root cause: Our mitigative efforts to address a different problem pertaining to Microsoft Teams admin center configurations regarding anonymous users’ access privileges led to the temporary suspension of anonymous users’ ability to edit or view whiteboards in Microsoft Teams altogether.
