User impact: Users may have appeared to be unable to create new templated documents in SharePoint Online document libraries.
More info: While we were focused on mitigation, users may have been able to navigate back to the SharePoint Online document library where they may have seen a new templated document.

Users who saw a prompt to enable pop-ups when they were attempting to create a new templated document in a SharePoint Online document library may have been able to bypass the issue by allowing these. However, they may have noticed that a blank page was opened in addition to the templated document.

Final status: We’ve confirmed with some affected users that our fix to address the underlying problem has fully remediated the issue.
Scope of impact: Any user who attempted to create new templated documents in SharePoint Online document libraries may have been affected.

End time: Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 6:00 PM UTC
Root cause: A code change, meant to address a separate issue related to document creation, introduced a code issue within the flow utilized when creating documents from templates, which resulted in impact.
Next steps:
– We’re assessing our code change processes so we can better identify similar code issues during our testing and development cycles and avoid comparable issues in the future.
