Title: Users may be unable to play migrated Stream videos in Microsoft Stream
User impact: Users may be unable to play migrated Stream videos in Microsoft Stream.
More info: Users attempting to play impacted Stream videos will encounter the error message: “This browser or app can’t play the video. Something might be outdated or not supported. Try again using a different browser or app.”
Current Status: Our fix has been successfully tested internally and we’ve begun a broad deployment. We anticipate that the fix will take at least seven days to fully saturate all impacted environments. Once the fix has fully saturated, we can begin repairing individual video files. We estimate that all files will be repaired by Friday, March 15, 2024, though we expect the majority of affected files to be repaired significantly earlier than that date as our fix deployment reaches affected users. We will update this timeline with our latest projections at the time of our next scheduled communication.
Scope of impact: Any user may be unable to play migrated Stream videos in Microsoft Stream.
Start time: Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 AM UTC
Preliminary root cause: A recent feature update, intended to enhance the reliability and stability of our service, contained a code regression that prevented migrated Stream videos from playing as expected during the outlined window of impact.
