Final status: We received reports that users may have been unable to search for events in SharePoint Online when filtered by event category in the events webpart. Our investigation determined that there was a discrepancy between search properties when filtered by event category in the events webpart. We reverted the service update that caused this issue to utilize the previous properties during search, and validated with both reporting users and within our test environments that this issue is resolved.

Scope of impact: This issue could have potentially affected any user if they were attempting to search for events filtered by event category in the events webpart.

Root cause: A discrepancy between service updates changed the properties used during SharePoint Online search queries through the events webpart. A mismatch between the previously used pathway and the updated pathway caused the events webpart search functionality to only operate when using a single keyword in the events webpart.

Next steps:
– We’re reviewing our slated updates that change the events webpart to ensure that these search properties are properly updated in future updates, and ensure that they’re also properly backported in earlier service builds to avoid further discrepancies.
