Organizations can now use Purview Data Lifecycle Management policies to manage the retention or deletion of Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions. This can be useful for legal reasons or to comply with company policies. Previously, Copilot interactions were managed along with Microsoft Teams chats, which was inflexible as organizations may have different retention strategies for each type of content.
A new Data Lifecycle Management policy location dedicated to Microsoft Copilot experiences has been announced. This allows admins to set specific retention and deletion settings for Copilot interactions separate from Teams chats. For example, you can now delete Microsoft Teams chats after 90 days and Copilot interactions after 30 days. This new location will manage interactions generated by both Microsoft 365 and Copilot Studio.
Current organizations using Data Lifecycle Management to manage Copilot interactions will not see any changes. To take advantage of the new separation, a compliance administrator needs to create a new policy for Copilot experiences and another one for Microsoft Teams chats. Once the new policy is in effect, the old combined policy can be deleted.
